Saving for a new home ask yourself- Do I Need It?
/DO I NEED IT?
Before I buy anything, I ask myself, “Do I need it?” Most often the answer is no. At least half the time that single question stops me from purchasing something that I really don’t need. I may not even want it that much, other than it was there and I liked it.
There are some things that I still really want, even though I don’t technically need them, so I apply one additional question: “Would spending $20 on this item bring me more joy than owning my own home?” More often than not, I come up with an alternative $20 purchase that would be money spent much more wisely.
These two questions have saved me countless amounts of money in checkout lines and online shopping carts. They have even kept me from buying really large items that would have brought far more trouble than joy. Try them the next time you’re considering a purchase that may not be something you need.
